Dry Eyes

John Forbes optometrists believe in providing the best clinical care to our patients. Our optometrists have either completed or are in the process of completing the College of Optometrists Diploma in Ocular therapeutics as Independent Prescribers. This allows optometrists to prescribe medicines for your eyes in a similar way to your doctor prescribing medicines for the rest of your body.

Other services offered by the practise include dry eye of watery eye clinic. This can include the fitting of punctual plugs or lacrimal syringing. This service can reduce or eliminate these uncomfortable symptoms.

Punctual plugs are small pieces of plastic which are specially designed to fit into the drainage duct situated in the lids. This reduces tear drainage, preserving the limited tears in patients with reduced tear production. They are fitted under local anaesthesia.

Lacrimal sac irrigation checks for blockage in the tear drainage system and improve tear flow. If the drainage duct is blocked it may be possible to reduce the blockage by medical means. This procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia.
